This walkthrough shows you how to install a scenery addon to a folder of your choice, update Flight Simulator's scenery library, configure installation options and review the installation report. This topic demonstrates how to add scenery to Flight Simulator X using Addit! Pro For Flight Simulator X by working step-by-step through the installation of an actual, downloadable scenery addon.
Our addon is called FSX Scenery--Raleigh-Durham International by Ignacio Villegas.
Download the
7.9
MB zip file to a folder called Addons on
your C: drive, if you wish to match-up perfectly with this walkthrough:
Download from:
Flightsim.com: http://www.flightsim.com/
- requires login - search for "FSX Scenery--Raleigh-Durham International".
or
ByteForge.com: ftp://ftp.byteforge.com/addons/rdu11fsx.zip
The first step is very easy, begin by opening Addit! Pro. Pull down the File menu as shown below then select Install an Addon:

When the Addon Installation Wizard window appears, press Select Addon Files:

When the Select Addon Files window appears, locate rdu11fsx.zip. That is the file you downloaded above. Select only this zip file then press OK:

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, all colored status indicators are either green or yellow so you could press Finish at this point and install the addon using the default configuration. Instead, we will tweak the configuration to demonstrate how you can customize the installation process. Press Configure Scenery:

On the Configure Scenery window look for the section "Install the scenery files to". Pick "An existing or new scenery folder". Generally, it is best to install a scenery addon into its own custom folder then update Flight Simulator's scenery library so Flight Simulator picks up the new scenery. That is what we will do here. Press Next:

On the Configure Scenery window, position to the Set Installation Folder step by clicking Next or Previous. Be sure the tab Scenery Group 1 is chosen. We want to set the folder only for this group. The default folder for Scenery Group 2 is already fine so we will not worry about those files. Press Change Folder:

We will store our scenery in its own custom folder, one we will create. On the Select/Create Scenery Folder window, enter "Raleigh-Durham International" in the folder box near the bottom as shown below, then press ENTER. This directs Addit! Pro to store the files in this folder. Press Select to continue:

Back on the Configure Scenery window, notice the Target Folders of the scenery items have changed to reflect the choice you made in the last step. Press Next to continue:

On the Configure Scenery window, position to the Update Scenery Library step by clicking Next or Previous. Select "Add scenery to the scenery library", provide a title, and make sure "Enable the scenery" is checked (these are the default values). Press OK:

On the Configure Scenery window, position to the Set Picture step by clicking
Next or Previous. Press Set Picture
and select a picture to represent the airport. Press OK:

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, we will skip past the Configure Textures and Configure Other steps. The step indicators are yellow, so the default values should work just fine. Press Installation Options:

On the Set Installation Options window, enter an addon name. The Quick Picks button provides a handy list of possible names. Optionally, identify the authors and provide a description as shown below. Press OK:

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, press Installation Summary and review the choices:

Tip: maximize this window to see as much information as possible. Everything looks to be in order. Press OK:

On the Addon Installation Wizard window, press Finish to complete the installation:

According to the Installation Results report, all files were correctly installed and a new scenery area was created:

Now, start Flight Simulator X. You may see a message "Building database for new scenery files. This may take a while.". Visit Raleigh-Durham Intl (KRDU) and it should look like this:
