How to Install a Panel Addon
Complete Walkthrough

This topic demonstrates how to add a panel addon to Flight Simulator X using Addit! Pro For Flight Simulator X by working step-by-step through the installation of an actual, downloadable panel addon. This walkthrough shows you how to install a panel to a folder of your choice, assign a picture to it, configure installation options, review reports, assign the panel to an aircraft and verify the results.

Prerequisites

Our panel addon is called FSX Boeing 747-400 Deluxe Panel by John J. Schumacher of Schu Engineering.

Download the 2.4 MB zip file to a folder called Addons on your C: drive, if you wish to match-up perfectly with this walkthrough:

Step 1: Start Addit! Pro

The first step is very easy, begin by opening Addit! Pro. Pull down the File menu as shown below then select Install an Addon:

Step 2: Open the Addon Installation Wizard

When the Addon Installation Wizard window appears, press Select Addon Files:

Step 3: Select Addon Files

When the Select Addon Files window appears, locate 747-dlx7.zip. That is the file you downloaded above. Select only this zip file. Make sure all of the files inside the zip file are selected in the Zip File list, as shown below. Press OK:

Step 4: Addon Installation Wizard Revisited

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, all colored status indicators are either green or yellow so you could press Finish at this point and install the addon using the default configuration. Instead, we will tweak the configuration to demonstrate how you can customize the installation process. Press Configure Panel:

Step 5: Configuring the Panel

On the Configure Panel window look for the section "Install the panel files to". Pick "An existing or new panel folder" then press Next:

Step 6: Select an Installation Folder

On the Configure Panel window, position to the Set Installation Folder step by clicking Next or Previous. Press Change Folder:

Step 7: Create a new Panel Folder

We will store our panel in its own custom folder, one we will create. On the Select/Create Panel Folder window, enter "Boeing 747-400 Deluxe Panel" in the folder box near the bottom as shown below, then press ENTER. This directs Addit! Pro to store the panel files in this folder. Press Select to continue:

Step 8: Configuring the Panel

Back on the Configure Panel window, notice all the Target Folders of the panel items have changed to reflect the choice you made in the last step. Press Next to continue:

Step 9: Select a Panel Picture

On the Configure Panel window, position to the Set Picture step by clicking Next or Previous. Press Set Picture and select a picture to represent the panel. After that is done, press OK:

Step 10: Addon Installation Wizard Revisited

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, we will skip past the Configure Sound and Configure Other steps. The step indicators are yellow, so the default values should work just fine. Press Installation Options:

Step 11: Setting Installation Options

On the Set Installation Options window, enter an addon name. The Quick Picks button provides a handy list of possible names. Optionally, identify the authors and provide a description as shown below. Press OK:

Step 12: Review the Installation Summary

Back on the Addon Installation Wizard window, press Installation Summary and review the choices:

Tip: maximize this window to see as much information as possible. Everything looks to be in order. Press OK:

Step 13: Install the Addon

On the Addon Installation Wizard window, press Finish to complete the installation:

According to the Installation Results report, all files were correctly installed:

Step 15: Assign the Panel to an Aircraft

Use Addit! Pro's Edit Aircraft window to assign the panel to the Boeing 747-400. First, press the Edit Aircraft button on Addit! Pro's button bar. When the Edit Aircraft window appears, position to the Boeing 747-400. Right click and pick "Change Panel...":

When the Select Panel window appears, locate the "Boeing 747-400 Deluxe panel version 7" as shown below and highlight it. Press Select to choose this panel:

Step 16: Take Her for a Spin!

Finally, start Flight Simulator X and select the Boeing 747-400 aircraft and enjoy flying with your new panel!
