How about a Cessna 206 Stationair 6 II Amphibian this month?
This Cessna 206, by Mikko Maliniemi, Ian Grant, Steven Grant and Aaron R. Swindle is quite
good. From the 206's documentation:
"There's a legend in aviation. About an airplane that's more than just a
machine. An airplane that represents a way of life. It's a legend about guts. Ruggedness.
Determination. Trusted reliability. It's a legend called the Cessna Stationair. One
legendary aircraft stands alone as the hardest-working piston Single in the business.
This plane is equipped with EDO amphibian floats. This FSDS model has 32-bit
textures, full moving parts, dynamic virtual cockpit with night lights, transparent
cockpit windows with glass reflections, instrument panel and sounds."

This month we feature a Qantas C-17 Globemaster III by Project
Open Sky (Owen Hewitt, Gary Carlson, Jim Goldman & Hiroshi Igami, Owen Hewitt, C.
Vincent Cho, Mitsushi Yutaka, Steve Small, Aaron Swindle), repainted in Qantas cargo
fashion by Stephen Newton.
The C-17 Globemaster III is a high-wing, four-engine, T-tailed military
transport. The C-17 Globemaster III is designed to fulfill airlift needs well into the
21st century - carrying civilian cargo, large combat equipment/ troops or humanitarian aid
across international distances directly to small airfields anywhere in the world.
The panel, by Igore Suprunov, is quite excellent and features night lighting,
multiple CRT modes, a very readable HUD and several custom gauges.

Dassault Mirage 4000 by Romain Lucas, Dino Cattaneo and Eric
Marciano is our featured addon this month. Mir4000.zip includes both an aircraft model and
panel (2D and 3D). The airframe was designed with GMAX and features night lighting,
moving parts and automatic vapor trails.
The panel features custom gauges for the radar, multi-function display, HUD
and others. The MFD is fully functional and has many modes and numerous
sub-settings. The radar can also be tweaked to show various radar
configurations. The HUD features several illumination levels from dark to bright

This month's excellent featured addon, Falcon 50 CAEA - Dassault
Aviation Business Jet, was created by Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting, Robert
Young. Without a doubt this Falcon 50 is one of the best addons to arrive for FS 2002! The
zip includes a "full" and "light" model, a detailed 2D panel with many
sub-windows and a stunning 3D virtual panel with a fully realized interior.
The flight and visual models are top-notch as is the panel. All expected
animation is present including moving wheels and nose gear. This addon contains a file
called FALCON50manual2.exe. This is the main documentation and, unfortunately, runs as a
separate application. But this is the only flaw in this otherwise incredible
package.

This month we feature Piper PA28-180 OY-DHD by Ole Egholm.
Piper Cherokes were introduced in the 1960s with recent models appearing in the
1990s. This is a flyable version of the built-in FS2002 PA28; the author used digital
pictures of a real Piper to refine it and the results are gorgeous!
This aircraft features a photorealistic panel (two of them, actually, a pilot's
panel and a co-pilot's panel), a very nice virtual (3D) panel, great texturing, and custom
gauges.
One gauge pack includes a combined NAV, RNAV DME and ILS all-in-one. The yoke
can be toggled on or off, the co-pilot panel is accessed using SHIFT-3, the throttle
window can also be toggled as well as the magnetic compass.

This American Airlines BAe 146-200 by Mike Stone and Tony Madge
is our Featured Addon this time around. This aircraft was created using the advanced
GMAX tool and makes full use of Flight Simulator's reflective texturing. Parts
animation includes the suspension system and landing gear struts, nose wheel, and all
control surfaces.
Here is this aircraft's history: "The BAe Regional Jet has established a
new standard of comfort and reliability in the short-haul airline business. Its Honeywell
LF507 engines are extremely quiet, earning it the nickname "whisperjet". This
combined with a high-efficiency wing, giving it excellent short field performance, make it
an ideal choice for crowded in-city airports. It's fuselage is unusually wide for an
aircraft of this size, allowing 5 across seating. It continues to enjoy success with
regional airlines all over the world."
The panel by Paolo Dessani is designed for the Avro RJ85, RJ100
and Bae 146. It is photorealistic but lacks the fuzziness of such panels at high
resolutions. It features day and night operation and several custom gauges.

Prepare for something fresh this month, Classic Goodyear Blimp, The
Defender by Bill Lyons. This airship makes for great sight-seeing.
It's easy to fly and doesn't move very quickly. Perfect for those downtown
fly-abouts! Here's an excerpt from the documentation:
"The Goodyear blimp Defender was built in 1929 at Wingfoot Lake near Akron,
Ohio. As the largest Goodyear blimp to that date she served as the flagship of the fleet
till her retirement in 1934. She was Christened by Emelia Earhart at the 1929 Cleveland
National Air Races and during her reign she carried many notables of the day. She was
luxuriously fitted out in the finest art deco furnishings of the time. Her 178,000 cu.ft
envelope allowed a crew of two and 8 lucky passengers. She was powered by two 5 cylinder
Lawrence engines which gave her a cruise speed of around 45mph."
Usage note: you may need to enlarge the main viewing
window after loading this model. Just drag the bottom edge of the viewing window
down to the bottom of the screen.

This month we feature a marvelous Piper Cherokee Arrow III by
Warren Baier. From the documentation: "The Arrow was designed in Gmax using scale
plans obtained from a Cherokee Arrow manual. Photographs were taken of a real Cherokee
Arrow based at Whangarei airport New Zealand to assist with detail work. I tried to get
the panel and virtual cockpit to resemble the real one but some artistic license has been
used. The paint schemes on the aircraft are my own design. I was not able to compile
original engine sounds (hopefully someone else will) so I have had to use the sounds of
the default Cessna 182. The aircraft flight dynamics are the result of modifying the
default Mooney .air file to reflect the Arrow's fuselage dimensions, airfoil dimensions,
areas, angles and positions plus all the other values relating to moments of inertia,
weight, center of gravity and control surface areas. Adjustments to numerous other
parameters were made in order to achieve realistic handling and to ensure accurate
performance relating to maximum speed, stall speeds, rate of climb and fuel consumption. I
will not pretend to have everything correct as this is a task for the expert and hopefully
someone will take up the challenge of generating a better .air file."
All-in-all, for Mr. Baier's first attempt, the results are truly great!

Aircraft and Panel
This month, as we begin featuring addons designed for Flight Simulator 2002, we
offer a great Cessna C185 Skywagon by Mikko Maliniemi, Ian
Grant, Steve Small and Aaron R. Swindle.
In July 1960, Cessna flew the prototype model 185 which was a strengthened 180
airframe using a 260hp Continental IO-470 engine. Externally it featured more windows and
a taller tail with dorsal fin. With the rear bulkhead moved aft, it was capable of
carrying six people. Deliveries began in 1961. Picking up the bush role of the 180, the
aircraft was suitable for passenger, freight and utility work. It could be fitted out as
one, two, four, or six seat configuration - or with quick change seats. In addition to
internal cargo, a 136kg (300lb) fibreglass cargo pack could be installed beneath the
fuselage. The aircraft was fitted with skis, floats and spray equipment to carry out a
variety of roles. In 1965 the aircraft (185E) was uprated with the 300hp IO-520 engine.
This FSDS model has 32-bit textures, full moving parts, dynamic virtual cockpit,
transparent cockpit windows with glass reflections, instrument panel and sounds.
